Private charter flight over the high plateaux and the Manambolo River to the Tsingy de Bemaraha.

Prepare to be amazed as we delve into the heart of this mesmerizing landscape, characterized by a dense network of faults, crevasses, and limestone blocks sculpted into towering pinnacles.

These intriguing rock formations have borne witness to the dramatic transformations of the Earth’s crust. Today, the Tsingy stand tall like stone jungles, with some reaching heights of over 100 meters, creating a truly lunar landscape that is sure to leave you in awe. Recognized for its unique beauty and scientific significance, the Tsingy de Bemaraha was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.

During our visit, we will embark on the Andamozavaky trail, a captivating adventure lasting approximately 4 to 6 hours. This trail will lead us through enchanting woodlands, across a suspension bridge, and finally into the heart of the magnificent pinnacles themselves. From this vantage point, we will be treated to breathtaking views of the Tsingy’s stony formations, showcasing their majestic splendor.

Keep your eyes peeled for an array of remarkable wildlife encounters during our excursion. The Grands Tsingy is home to 11 species of lemurs, including the Decken’s sifaka, red-fronted brown lemur, fat-tailed dwarf lemur, grey mouse lemur, Cleese’s woolly lemur, and the Sambirano lesser bamboo lemur, which can only be found here. Additionally, other fascinating mammals such as the small carnivorous falanouc and the ring-tailed mongoose, as well as several bat species, inhabit this unique ecosystem.

Within the National Park, over 100 bird species have been documented, including the critically endangered Madagascar fish eagle, crested ibis, Madagascar wood-rail, giant coua, and Coquerel’s coua.

Following a picnic lunch, we fly on to Morondava, from where we can drive to the Avenue of the Baobabs.

We’ll arrive in time for a magical sunset at Baobab avenue. The Avenue of the Baobabs is said to the most beautiful road in Madagascar and easily accessible. Everywhere along the road there are impressive Baobabs, but only a small part of 250 meters length is known as “Allée de Baobab” due to its photogenic silhouette. Those up to 30 meters high trees belong to the species of Adansonia grandidieri and are considered to be Madagascar’s landmark. Some of these giant trees are allegedly on the island for more than 1000 years.

After a day of exploration, unwind and rejuvenate at the Palisandre Cote Ouest Hotel and Spa’s inviting pool, conveniently located next to the bar and restaurant. Take a refreshing dip or simply relax poolside, savoring the tranquil ambiance and the soothing coastal breeze.

Anja Community Reserve is a woodland area and freshwater lake, situated at the base of a large cliff. Much of the reserve is dominated by fallen rocks and boulders and there are two small caves providing habitat for bats and owls. The reserve was created in 2001 to help preserve the local environment and wildlife, and to provide additional employment and income to the local community.

The reserve is a great place to see ring-tailed lemurs in troops. It is the most visited community-run protected area for the lemurs and the landscape is incredible with the backdrop of granite rocks.

In the early afternoon, we take the road to Fianarantsoa. We can stop to visit the Upper Town of the capital of Betsileo. Built in the image of that of Antananarivo in the nineteenth century, this area of the city seduces history enthusiasts with its old houses and religious buildings. After this, we continue for the remaining 65km drive to Ranomafana.

While visiting Ranomafana National Park, we’ll stay at the Hotel Thermal. The Hotel Thermal Ranomafana is a beautifully restored three-star hotel, which was originally an accommodation for spring water curists. The hotel is located in the heart of the National Park of Ranomafana and reflects the traditional architecture of the region.

Relax and unwind in one of the two private pools, filled with the warm and therapeutic waters of the “Ranomafana” hot spring. Immerse yourself in nature and birdwatch while taking a dip. For added relaxation, consider treating yourself to a gentle massage or workout at the gym (additional fee applies).

There are around 250 species of plant here including 36 tree species, many of which are extremely rare. It’s also a very good place to find chameleons, including the giant Parsons chameleon.

The grading of these walks is easy. During night walks, most visitors see a variety of nocturnal lemurs, reptiles such as Uroplatus geckos and many tree frogs and fascinating invertebrates including the Madagascar comet (lunar) moth.

This enchanting destination holds a special allure, primarily due to the presence of the rare indri, Madagascar’s largest lemur. With approximately 60 resident family groups, each consisting of two to five indris, you’ll have ample opportunities to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

While the indris steal the spotlight, the park is teeming with an array of other remarkable lemur species. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of woolly lemurs, grey bamboo lemurs, red-fronted lemurs, black-and-white ruffed lemurs, and diademed sifakas, which are among the largest lemur species. In 2005, the Goodman’s mouse lemur, identified as a distinct species, was discovered here, further adding to the park’s biodiversity. As you explore, you’ll also encounter eleven species of tenrec, the vibrant and immense Parson’s chameleon, and an impressive array of seven other chameleon species. Additionally, the park boasts over 100 bird species, 20 species of amphibians, and the endemic Ravenea louvelii palm tree, which is found exclusively within its boundaries.

After lunch, spend the afternoon with lemurs at the private Lemur Island (Vakona reserve). A short walk from the hotel, it offers up close and personal encounters with lemurs, suspended walkways above a river teeming with crocodiles, and marvelous endemic birdlife.

After dark, your guide will collect you from your lodge and take you for a night walk in the small rainforest parcel of VOIMMA, which is protected by a local guides association.
